Cmobile NBN ® Plans

Not all locations in Australia have access to NBN Fibre technology. Some regional locations use the NBN Fixed Wireless network and the remaining rural and more remote locations use NBN Sky Muster Satellite. To check what NBN plan is available at your address, you can enter your address on our NBN Plans page. This will then return what NBN technology is available at your address and what plan you can order.

There are 3 types of NBN technologies available to order and Cmobile is one of the few Service Providers in Australia to offer all of them to our customers. These are NBN Fibre, NBN Fixed Wireless and NBN Sky Muster Satellite.

NBN Fibre Technologies

NBN Fibre is the most reliable and common type of NBN connection covering around 90% of available homes and businesses. Not all premises have fibre directly to them and this can determine the speed you can expect. The different fibre types are:

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) – Fibre optic connection directly to the home or business provides the fastest and most reliable connection.

Fibre to the Node (FTTN) – A mix of copper and fibre technology. Depending on how far your premises is from the node determines the maximum speed you can receive.

Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) – Fibre is connected to a distribution point on the street, then copper to your premises. You can expect speeds faster than FTTN in most cases.

Fibre to the Building (FTTB) – Used for apartment buildings and multi-dwelling units, fibre is connected to a node in the building communications room, then distributed to the individual units.

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) – Similar to FTTN, however this technology uses the coaxial cable used for pay TV into the premises. This technology can deliver speeds up to 1000Mbps in some circumstances.

NBN Fixed Wireless

Fixed Wireless Technology is used in regional areas where fibre cable is not available. It currently covers around 400,000 premises. It uses 4G and 5G radio technology to connect a home from the NBN wireless tower to an antenna installed on the premises (normally the roof). Speeds can be up to 400Mbps but this is dependent on a line of sight to the tower and the distance from premises to the tower. Cmobile can assist with installation of Fixed Wireless equipment and what speed you can expect.

NBN Sky Muster Satellite

Sky Muster Satellite is used in regional and remote parts of Australia covering around 100,000 addresses where fibre and fixed wireless is not available. It uses 2 geostationary satellites around 36,000kms from earth to deliver internet to homes and businesses. Cmobile will arrange for an NBN technician to install a satellite dish and modem at your premises to connect to the satellite service. The maximum speed for NBN Sky Muster is 100Mbps.

Your speed is determined by what NBN technology is available at your premises and other factors such as your cabling and equipment. You can select a Cmobile NBN plan and speed tier that suits your available NBN technology. Current speeds available are:

• Up to 100 Mbps download
• Up to 250 Mbps download
• Up to 400 Mbps download

NBN Sky Muster

• Up to 25 Mbps download
• Up to 50Mbps download
• Up to 100Mbps download

It’s important to check the Typical Evening Speeds for your plan as this is the busy period of 7pm to 11pm where the network is used the most and can suffer some congestion. If you’re still not sure, contact our Support team and we’ll be happy to help.

No. All Cmobile NBN plan’s are month to month so you are never locked into a contract.

No. With Cmobile you can bring your own router, or purchase a new one directly from us. No changes to settings are required as the Cmobile network configures your router over the network. In some instances, you may need to reset your modem / router if the connection is not working. As always, contact us if you need support.

If your premises are already connected to NBN, it can take as little as 1 hour to move to Cmobile NBN. Switching is easy and painless in most situations. Your connection time depends on the NBN technology at your premises and if you require NBN equipment to be installed. If you do require new equipment, Cmobile will place the next available appointment for an NBN technician to install the equipment for you.

Yes, in most circumstances the set-up for Cmobile NBN is free. If you already have NBN equipment installed at your address, the switch to Cmobile is fast and free. NBN do not charge for a standard installation of equipment for Fixed Wireless or Satellite equipment if you don’t already have this installed. If your address is not NBN ready, then a New Development Fee of $300 will apply. We will let you know beforehand if this will apply.

All Cmobile NBN plans have unlimited data, so you are not restricted to a certain data limit or cap.
